The Palau Güell at a glance
Antoni Gaudí built the palace in 1886–1890 for Eusebi Güell. It stands at Carrer Nou de la Rambla 3–5, in a side street, so the entrance is not on La Rambla itself. Since 1984 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Works of Antoni Gaudí. An audio guide is included in the ticket.
Plan it as a detour of its own. If you want it as part of a longer day, pair it with the Barcelona walking tour on the tours page or with the stops in our list of 15 things to do. The ticket is sold online for now, so buy before you go.

Opening hours and closed days
The palace has two seasons.
1 April to 31 October
The palace is open 10:00–20:00, and the last entry is at 19:00.
1 November to 31 March
The palace is open 10:00–17:30, and the last entry is at 16:30. Plan your visit earlier in the day in winter.
Closed days
It is closed on Mondays that are not public holidays, on 1 and 6 January and on 25 and 26 December. There is also one maintenance week in late January, so check the exact days if you travel then.
Buying your ticket
For now, tickets are sold online only. Do not count on buying at a desk, and book before you arrive.
Free dates and how to use them
Entry is free on the first Sunday of every month and on 12 February, 23 April, 11 September and 24 September. Entry is also free during the Museum Night and on local holidays that the city approves each year.
Free dates need registration in advance. For the first Sunday, slots are released from the Thursday before, at 10:00. A free date is not the same as an entry on the spot, so register early.

House rules and the roof
Private photos are allowed without flash or tripod. Selfie sticks, food and drink are not allowed. The roof and the south courtyard can close in rain, wind or extreme heat, so do not plan your visit around the terrace alone.
The roof carries the chimneys, and the basement holds the former stables. If the weather is poor, ask at the entrance whether the roof is open before you go up.

Finding it and what comes next
A short detour from the boulevard.
Walk to Carrer Nou de la Rambla from the boulevard. The Metro stations Liceu and Drassanes, both on line L3, serve the Rambla. Allow a few minutes to find the side street. Compare it with the other Gaudí houses in our guide to Gaudí buildings, and for the big church see the Sagrada Família site.
Plan around the hours. From 1 April to 31 October the last entry is 19:00, which leaves time to pair the palace with the Boqueria, open until 20:30. From 1 November the last entry is 16:30, so visit the palace first and the market afterwards. If you travel in winter, remember that the roof depends on the weather, and the free first-Sunday entry needs registration.
