La Rambla at night: how an evening works

The Rambla is a street, so the stroll itself needs no ticket. What you plan is the evening around it: a flamenco show, a night walk, tapas or a night at the opera. Many daytime sights close early. The Boqueria shuts at 20:30, Monday to Saturday. The cathedral closes to visitors at 18:30 on weekdays. The Palau Güell stays open until 20:00 from 1 April to 31 October.

So start with a show or dinner, then walk. By day, Gothic Quarter walking tours cover the old town at 11:00 and 16:30 from April to October. The evening options below start later and finish near the lower end of the Rambla or in El Born.

Night walks, tapas and the opera

Four ways to fill the hours after dark.

A night walk through the old town

This walk costs €20, runs in English and lasts about 2 hours. It meets at the Arc de Triomf, not on the Rambla, and ends at Plaça Comercial in El Born. From April to October it runs on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 21:00. In November it runs on Monday and Friday at 19:00. From December to March there are no scheduled group tours, only private ones.

An evening tapas tour

One evening tour runs through the Gothic Quarter. It lasts 3.5 hours, takes up to 12 guests and includes tastings and 5 drinks. Vegetarian options are possible, vegan and gluten-free changes are limited, and the tour does not suit wheelchairs, strollers or guests with limited mobility. A flamenco show with tapas is a separate ticket and not a food tour.

An opera or concert at the Liceu

Tickets for the Gran Teatre del Liceu at La Rambla 51–59 are sold on the theatre's website, at its box office or by phone. Prices depend on the performance and the seat. After the start, the doors stay closed until the first interval, if there is one. Photos, film and sound recording are not allowed during the performance, and there is no formal dress code.

Port Vell after dark

The Rambla de Mar footbridge leads from the Columbus monument to the Moll d'Espanya. The swing bridge opens every hour for leisure boats, so expect a short wait. The Maremagnum shops close at 21:00 or 22:00, depending on the season, and its restaurants and bars close at 01:00 or 01:30.

This is the window for a flamenco show, a Liceu performance and the night walk in November. The night walk starts at 21:00 from April to October.

After the show

Plaça Reial is right beside the Rambla, and the lower end leads to the harbour. Check your route home before the evening starts.
