Getting to La Rambla in short

La Rambla runs about 1.2 km from Plaça de Catalunya to the Columbus monument at the port. Three metro stations cover it. Catalunya (L1 and L3) sits at the top, Liceu (L3) in the middle near the Boqueria and the opera house, and Drassanes (L3) at the harbour end. Drassanes may also appear as La Rambla | Drassanes on signs and maps.

From the airport, the Aerobús is the most direct ride to the top of the Rambla. The airport train does not run to Plaça de Catalunya, so it needs a change. If you book Barcelona walking tours, note that the Gothic Quarter route meets at the fountain on Plaça Reial, right beside the Rambla.

From the airport to La Rambla

Bus, metro or train.

Aerobús

Line A1 serves Terminal 1 and line A2 serves Terminal 2. A single ticket costs €7.75, a return €13.30, and children under 4 travel free. The return ticket is valid for up to 90 days after the outbound ride. The ride takes about 35 minutes to the centre, without waiting time, walking or traffic.

Airport metro

Use the airport fare and change to L1 or L3 for the Rambla. Check the transfer on the metro map before you travel, and keep your luggage in front of you on busy platforms.

Regional train

The R2 Nord links the airport with the line toward Maçanet-Massanes, and a free terminal shuttle runs around the clock. There is no direct train to Catalunya station, so plan an onward ride by metro or on foot. Look up the fare for your route before you go.

By car and on foot

Why the car is the weakest option here.

Traffic on the Rambla

The Rambla is being rebuilt, with completion aimed for 2027. The lane toward the sea on the Raval side is open to residents, services and garage access, not to general through traffic. Expect fencing and detours on some stretches. See the history of the Rambla for how the street got its shape.

Parking at the port

The Maremagnum garage at Port Vell has 826 spaces and is open 24 hours. Check the hourly rate on arrival. From there, Drassanes is the nearest metro and the Columbus monument is at the foot of the Rambla.

Foreign-registered cars

Cars with foreign plates register for the low-emission zone. Processing can take up to 15 working days, and the fee for compliant vehicles is €7. Confirm the current rules before you drive.

Walking the Rambla

The street is free to walk and needs no reservation. It is about 1.2 km long, but stops at the Boqueria, the Liceu and Plaça Reial make it a longer walk. Start at the top and walk down toward the sea.
